Sunday Night Open Thread

Hillary is now beating Donald Trump in the popular vote count by more than 600,000 votes. Not much solace. But it may be enough for me to call him the UnPresident from now on.

Josh Marshall says the Trump Administration will be incredibly corrupt.

Can Netflix please speed up the release date of Surviving Pablo Escobar -- the series about his head hitman Popeye, John Jairo Velásquez, who was released from prison in 2014 after serving 23 years? I've been following him in the news since before his release and want something to watch so I can stop reading about our UnPresident.

Thursday Open Thread: Hangover Edition

Did any of you wake up today and say, "This must be a nightmare, this can't be happening?" I sure did.

Late Night Show Hosts react to Trump. I'm sure everyone has their favorite, and you all know mine, and he did not disappoint.

Even his pitch at the end asking everyone to be nice to each other, including those who voted differently than we did, did not call for unity with political opponents on political issues, which I very much appreciated. He kept it human, devoid of politics. (Keep in mind, he's British and has only lived here a few years, he can't vote.)

On legalizing marijuana, James and Reggie are at their best.

Friday Night Open Thread

I am just getting back from long jail day and have not seen or listened to any news. Traffic was just abysmal everywhere.

This weekend it will be worse. Streets around me will closed Sunday while they move a museum to the neighborhood. They are even expecting crowds:

Public viewing areas will be located along the route on Broadway, 11th Avenue, 13th Avenue and Bannock Street.

I'm also following my own advice and not reading any more so called news about the election or email investigations.

On comments: If I find any name-calling or insults among commenters, those commenters are going into time out until after the election. Either be polite to each other, don't respond to each other, or get lost. I'm not going to wade through threads of insults.

Remember to vote. This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

Saturday Open Thread: Non-Email Edition

A female Trump supporter in Iowa has been charged with election fraud for voting for Trump twice.

The fire on the American Airlines 767 at O'Hare is really scary. How did they get all those people (and a dog) off the plane in one minute?

In Syria news: The so called "moderate rebels" teamed up with the Al Qaida linked jihadists from Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (formerly Nusra) in yesterday's Aleppo assaults. The U.S. media just wants to talk about the wonderful moderate rebels. What a joke. How is JFS less a threat to the West than ISIS? It isn't. Earlier this month, there were reports JFS is readying attacks on the West.

This is an open thread, all topics (besides Hillary's emails and Comey) welcome.

Thursday Open Thread

I don't know where the week flew away to, it just did. I've got more jail visits this morning and afternoon, and since we can't use phones or internet once inside, it will be dinnertime before I get back to a computer.

I hope Donald Trump implodes and says some more ridiculous things. I'm really looking forward to never seeing his face on TV again.

When I get some time, I'd like to figure out what's happening with El Chapo and ISIS. If I do, I'll write it up soon.

Chema Venegas -- the thorn in the side of Lord of the Skies -- gets his own show on Telemundo around January. It's now filming. I'll be so glad when the cop shows like Narcos and Bloque del Busqada are done. El Principe was the best series I've seen all year. Even the cops and drug dealers were good guys (but not the crooked Intelligence agents (think equivalent of our CIA). Sad though that all the good people died at the end -- In Principe, there is only salt water -- tears of the sea.

It's still airing on Unimas on Demand and Hulu with subtitles if you missed it.

Other than that, I only watch James Corden and Action Bronson (F*ck That's Delicious) these days. James remains the happiest guy on TV and I get happy just watching him. I wasn't wild about Lady Gag's carpool karaoke, but I did like seeing her spend the hour in the band pit with Reggie Watts. That was a good place for her. She tried to do the monologue for James, but it fell flat. [More...]

Friday Open Thread

Twitter is down here, part of an earlier DOS (denial of service) attack that may have also hit Amazon and Netflix. I can get Amazon and Netflix now, just not Twitter.

Here is the DYN company's status page with updates. (Their website seems to be down.)

Trump got booed at the Al Smith Charity dinner. He's toast and he knows it.

Yom Kippur: Day of Atonement and Open Thread

Yom Kippur began at sundown last night. It is the holiest Jewish holiday. A time to fast, pray and repent.

Yom Kippur means "Day of Atonement" and refers to the annual Jewish observance of fasting, prayer and repentance. Part of the High Holidays, which also includes Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur is considered the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. In three separate passages in the Torah, the Jewish people are told, "the tenth day of the seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be a sacred occasion for you: You shall practice self-denial."(Leviticus 23:27). Fasting is seen as fulfilling this biblical commandment. The Yom Kippur fast also enables us to put aside our physical desires to concentrate on our spiritual needs through prayer, repentance and self-improvement.

Yom Kippur is the moment in Jewish time when we dedicate our mind, body, and soul to reconciliation with God, our fellow human beings, and ourselves. We are commanded to turn to those whom we have wronged first, acknowledging our sins and the pain we might have caused. At the same time, we must be willing to forgive and to let go of certain offenses and the feelings of resentment they provoked in us. On this journey we are both seekers and givers of pardon. Only then can we turn to God and ask for forgiveness: “And for all these, God of forgiveness, forgive us, pardon us, and grant us atonement.”

To those of you observing the holiday, G’mar Chatimah Tovah - May You Be Sealed for a Good Year (in the Book of Life). (I hope I got that right.)

Saturday Open Thread: Non-Trump Edition

The Rolling Stones played at Coachella in the Desert yesterday. They opened with Start Me Up. The full version, including their entrance is below:

Mick Jagger may be the most unique, inimitable performer on the planet. He's an international treasure.

The Stones just released their first new studio album in a decade. It's a blues album. They played Ride 'Em On Down at the Desert show. Here's a clip of the audio of another song on the new album, Just Your Fool.

More from their Desert performance: Gimme Shelter (with Voice alumna Sasha Allen, who joined the Stones' "touring lineup" this year); You Can't Always Get What You Want and Sympathy for the Devil.

Here's a terrific video featuring Keith Richards and You've Got the Silver from Santiago Chile this March.

This is an open thread, all topics welcome, except Donald Trump. There are several Thump threads open for commenting.
