As both Big Tent Democrat and I wrote separately today, a Veep announcement from Sen. Barack Obama is not expected this week.

There was no announcement today in Indiana where he campaigned with current media front runner Sen. Evan Bayh.

Obama won’t be tipping his hand for running mate this week, one campaign official said, and he won’t do it next week either, at least not while he’s vacationing with his family in Hawaii. That vacation ends Aug. 16, giving Obama about a week and a half to make a decision in advance of the Democratic convention.

Is in a quandary on the VP pick. Remember when Obama said "Hillary's nice enough", well that's how I feel about Bayh, Kaine and the rest who have been mentioned. And these are all very centrist, almost conservative, Democrats and will not shore up any support from progressives. He is obviously looking for someone who will not out shine him or out weigh him when it comes to personality and experience. It's my belief that his "personality" is starting to wear thin and his "experience" is lacking. The last few weeks have spoken volumes about his convictions or lack thereof. Many I have talked to are looking for the VP pick to bring them on board if they are to get on board at all. This pick could make or break his chances for a win.

and some like Kaine and Nunn are way more that almost conservative. Jeralyn was going do a VP deal breaker. if she did I missed it and if she didnt I wish she would.
either of the two I named would be the deal breaker for me.

I saw a clip of Evan Bayh on Morning Joe.
Joe asked him about Obama's position on oil drilling.
He bobbed and weaved.
Finally he said that Obama supported offshore drilling "if that's what it takes" to get better milage cars and gobbledygook.

He couldn't just come out and say that Obama had changed his position on oil drilling in the exact same manner as did McCain.

So - he is very unimpressive to me as a candidate.
But then, so is the head of the ticket.
Maybe he's perfect for Obama.
He's willing to b.s. everyone and look like a chump for Obama.

I am so tired of these guys.

If Obama is gonna pick Bayh, he should do it quickly, before "Bayh Watch" becomes a familiar pun everywhere -- the last thing Obama needs is subliminal reminders to voters of "talentless" celebrities like Pamela Sue Anderson...

I thought Bayh would be a bad choice just because of his name. Think of all of the song lyrics with bye-bye in them. The Repubs can turn Bayh in to a celebrity with those also.

Must you turn everything into a slam against Obama?

At any rate, of the people being talked about, I hope Obama picks Hillary Clinton or Wesley Clark. Any other choice would leave me at least mildly disappointed. Though he could also make a good pick by choosing someone who's not being talked about (I would weep with joy if he picked Russ Feingold, for instance).

It is hardly a slam against Obama to point out that he has slipped in the polls. Some show McCain even. One I saw even had McCain ahead.
Where's the slam?
Isn't it obvious that he could use a great vote getter like Hillary Clinton on the ticket instead of the wishy-washy somnambulants he seems to be considering at the moment?

If he was not the media darling and the country wasn't reeling from GWB, we wouldn't be talking about him at all. There are no VP contenders that can match Hillary's vote getting potential. The perceptual problem: choosing her would mean another giant flip-flop. I don't think it matters at this point: the media will gob on to its Desi/Lucy media upside.
