Getting Acquainted With the 9/11 Defendants

Today, many of us are only familiar with Khalid Sheik Mohammed or Ramzi Binashibh, who have garnered the most press. Months from now, those of us who follow these cases will know the histories of all five 9/11 defendants like the back of our hands. Here's a helpful primer of links for those who want to get a head start.

Short Profiles of the Soon to Be 9/11 Defendants:

Individually, With Lots of Links

If you want to see the Government's version, check out this military link to the individual transcripts and summaries of evidence of the Combatant Status Review Tribunals. Here are the Military Commission Charges Against the Five 9/11 Detainees (individual links here.) Here is the Defense Department press release announcing the death penalty would be sought. The publicly available pleadings filed in those proceedings are here.

TalkLeft has been covering Khalid Sheik Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh since 2002. My first post complaining about kidnapping and questioning Mohammed's young son's was in 2003. Here's an interview Mohammed and Binalshibh gave to al Jazeera's London Bureau Chief Yosri Fouda in 2002, before their capture and before any torture. The interview is listed as part of the evidence against Khalid.

One of the things I'm now interested in locating is mitigating evidence against the death penalty for each of the five men. If you come across any, feel free to share in comments or by e-mail.

there will be many in the Muslim world who will be favorably impressed by the fact that these people are getting a fair trial, and our esteem among them may go up.

there is some secret agenda that is the Attorney Generals motive to have this terrorist trial in federal court, with all the wild and scary trimmings on national television. But Fox is not the only one, on MSNBC, and CNN talked about this preceding as already characterized it in journalism going wild, in a have at it, working all angles in a zoo or circus effect, maximizing chaos. For me it shows the in-depth complicity that all these networks are in cahoots with Bush and his Wahabbi friends.

Speaking for me, and agreeing with bobh, that this whole issue will be a huge, huge learning experience for America, the Muslim's here and abroad along with the rest of the world. Obama, along with his Attorney General could very well add to moment of understanding which we all need. Making this decision could very well open up the in depth social misunderstands that are cockeye and out sync with good simple harmonic structure of the legal ease that America needs and the world overwhelmingly needs to improve upon.

America is seriously flawed in the understanding of the judicial process of this war. All leading to very reasons Bush and his Wahabbi friends are definitely going to be flushed out into the open for deliberate intent neglect, abuse, and out right civil rights violations Constitutional violations and International law violations. From my view much of what that has transpired has been also suppressed by the cable and hate radio media, they should eventually be part of the trial in definitions of sedition and treason. If Obama and the Democrats wish to bring forth a learning experience this war time issue of terror is what must be done if America is going to be a leader or show leadership, this is a must, and to be sure it is some thing the Bush Wahabbi war machine do want to happen.
