The next step in the war on drugs: Embedding U.S. drug and intelligence agents agents in Mexico.

The increasingly close partnership between the two countries, born of frustration over the exploding death toll in Ciudad Juarez, would place U.S. agents and analysts in a Mexican command center in this border city to share drug intelligence gathered from informants and intercepted communications.

...Until recently, U.S. law enforcement agencies have been reluctant to share sensitive intelligence with their Mexican counterparts for fear they were either corrupt or incompetent. And U.S. agents have been wary of operating inside Mexican command centers for fear they would be targeted for execution

The cost: In addition to the $1.4 billion aid package to Mexico, President Obama is asking for an additional $310 million for drug war aid to Mexico.

    on January 1st was that we would begin using drones to attack the cartels in Mexico this year.

    ...To recall this was how we wound up with 500,000 American troops in Viet Nam.

    First, U.S. advisors were "embedded" with the South Vietnamese army. Then some of the U.S. advisors got killed. Soon America had to send more troops to keep those advisors safe. Eventually more and more of the additional troops got killed by Cong snipers and landmines and ambushes...and then "America's credibility is at stake" and half a million grunts flood in backed by tanks and Hueys and artillery and firebases...

    Yes, Mexico is Viet Nam all over again. Prediction: within 5 years, America will have at least 3 U.S. army divisions at war with the cartels in Mexico, and (as in Afghanistan and Iraq) the impotent worthless incompetent U.S. army will be losing badly, outgunned, outmaneuvered, out-guerilla'd and out-G2'd.

    Look for headlines from Mexico by 2016 reading U.S. TROOPS FALL BACK FROM CARTEL FORCES IN MASSIVE ROUT, PRESIDENT VOWS ESCALATION.

    The cartels have enough money to hire Blackwater.  Seems we would have troops fighting ex-troops.  Mexico would prefer to have the money and training rather than troops.

    Gotta do SOMETHING to keep prices/profits adequate, and being able to keep a closer eye on the competition will make it easier to maintain market share, all the while shoring up sagging profits as Americans pull back from the straw during these days of shorter pocketbooks.
