Man Who Shot at Zimmerman Charged With Attempted Murder

Matthew Apperson has been charged with attempted murder in Florida for shooting at George Zimmerman while Zimmerman was driving.

Today, the State Attorney's Office in Sanford filed three charges against Apperson: attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Apperson was in a mental hospital weeks before the shooting. He was fixated on Zimmerman, according to police. Zimmerman sustained minor injuries from flying glass and debris.

I hope the media continues to follow this case. It would be interesting to see a trial, if there's isn't plea deal.

It "sounds like the right charges"?!?

What happened to, "I've already explained what my bias is.  I'm pro defense.  Innocent until proven guilty."

Huh ... guess that depends on who the defendant is ...

pro-defense (as I am) and thinking that charges are appropriate if they name the crime that the prosecutor offers to prove and that charge fairly correlates with the known facts (shooting toward a person's head, at close range, through a closed car window). Even if the accused appears to have a potential mental health defense.

or are you as obsessed with me as Apperson is with Zimmmerman?  It's a little creepy that you use a quote of mine from a while ago.  I keep hoping if I ignore you, you'll go away but that doesn't seem to work.  Should I be concerned?

So far, it appears to me that Apperson is being treated fairly by the media and judicial system. I don't see a rush to judgement.  Instead of commenting about me, how about you comment on the actual case.

Any regular commenter builds a history and a persona. Every day is NOT a new day -- comments and personality patterns carry forward. You will be called out on hypocrisy.

You are not that special. Except for maybe in a "isn't that special" way.

about my comments on Apperson and Zimmerman.  Apperson appears to be getting a fair shake.  Zimmerman didn't.

When this story first broke, the headlines were... Zimmerman involved in shooting... even though the evidence suggested he was the victim.  Jeralyn pointed that out in her commentary.

If, for some reason, things change and Apperson becomes the victim of a viscous prosecutor or lazy/biased media, I will point that out. Being pro defense doesn't mean pretending every defendant gets a raw deal.

of outlets loosely defined as "The Media," why do you consistently refer to "THE Media" as if there's a single, omnipotent organization recounting the news?

If I may take the initiative here and answer my own question, would it be so that you can always find one media outlet (of the thousands available) with which to find fault, and thus, justify your apparent need to criticize "THE Media" for some perceived injustice by the way they describe the behavior of whomever happens to be your immediate, unjustly persecuted Hero-of-the Day?

Objective thinking and common sense go out the window.  People, especially emotional thinkers, don't like admitting they're wrong.  Whatever happens to GZ next, he will be assumed guilty/responsible.

"Whatever happens to GZ next, he will be assumed guilty/responsible."

You see, now that's just not fair. As long as he proclaims his innocence, and there are no witnesses to contradict his denial, why, of course, any objective thinker, especially one with common sense, would immediately accept his self-serving statement as absolutely, positively, irrefutably, and, metaphysically, proof-beyond-a-shadow-of-doubt of his innocence.

    Where's the problem?

    The main problem (none / 0) (#21)
by McBain on Sat Jun 20, 2015 at 05:06:25 PM EST
has to do with lack of intelligent thinking, discussion and reporting. Far too much has been based on emotion, politics and money.

...mass murderer Dylann Roof who was such a fanboy he included Zimmerman in his manifesto.
In the manifesto--which was discovered Saturday morning by Internet sleuths--Roof says he was not raised to be racist, though he made racist jokes growing up. He says it was the Trayvon Martin killing--and his feeling that George Zimmerman was right to shoot the unarmed black teen--that awakened him to "black on white violence," which he subsequently read about on the website of a South Carolina-based hate group called the Council of Conservative Citizens.

The implication is that w/o GZ we might not have DR.

Not sure how a case that basically cleared Zimmerman would stoke white racists, but that is the product of a SC 9th grade education.
