Giuliani Defends Bush

Rudy is now defending Bush, including his leadership on Iraq. He also mocked the non-binding resolution Congress is considering.

In the business world, if two weeks were spent on a nonbinding resolution, it would be considered nonproductive," Giuliani told the lunch crowd, setting off a burst of laughter.

He called the concept "a comment without making a decision." America, he added, is "very fortunate to have President Bush." "Presidents can't do nonbinding resolutions. Presidents have to make decisions and move the country forward, and that's the kind of president that I would like to be, a president who makes decisions."

Can anyone think of a worse President than Rudy Giuliani? His pandering to Republican conservatives is just so transparent.

    Speaking of making decisions, how about Giuliani's decision to link the attack on 9/11 with the decision to invade Iraq at the 2004 GOP Convention.  He didn't mention Osama, barely mentioned Al Queda.  

    As William Saleton mentions in Slate "The most important characteristic of a great leader is being right. And the most important characteristic of a great speaker--contrary to the view of my colleagues who are raving about Giuliani's speech--is being honest."

    According to Guiliani
    Presidents have to make decisions and move the country forward, and that's the kind of president that I would like to be, a president who makes decisions.

    The President that Guiliani seems to be modeling himself on is Bush.  Bush moved us forward or pushed us into an unneeded war in Iraq.  Guiliani greatly admires Bush's decision making as he pointed out during the 2004 GOP convention.
    There are many qualities that make a great leader, but having strong beliefs, being able to stick with them through popular and unpopular times, is the most important characteristic of a great leader.

    By Guiliani's criteria, Bush's refusal to face reality in Iraq means that Bush should be considered a great leader.  

    Still there can be something admirable about sticking to your guns in the face of adversity.  The problem with Guiliani is that he doesn't even live up to this self-professed standard.  Take his position on partial birth abortions.  As soon as it becomes politically convenient because he needs to appeal to social conservatives he switches his position from being for it to being against it. (see link here)  Then he has his aides lie about it.

    As I recall, last time around Kerry was pandering quite a bit, and there was no concern here.  This is yet another case of whose ox is being gored.

    that despite his flaws, Kerry could not possibly have been as much as a loser as Bush.

    care to cite some of that "pandering" for the rest of the class? be specific, and provide sources. your work will be graded, in large part, on how well you're able to support, with actual facts, your throw-away assertion.

    and yes, i can think of a worse president. as repack rider alluded to earlier, just take a peek in the oval office.

    Not as a republican, but the other side of the isle has a few I would consider worse.

    Was Hillary pandering when she supported the Iraq resolution, or is she pandering now when she said that she really didn't mean to support the war but only wanted to give the president "leverage" to use against Saddam?

    If I knew that Bush was lying about the WMD and she didn't, then I am more qualified than she to be president, as are Obama and Webb, who also figured it out.  As did millions of ordinary people who do not have Hillary's resources.

    If nominated, however, I will not run.

    If elected, I will defer to Jim Webb, with Obama as veep.
