McCain Denies He's Giving Up on Colorado

CNN's John King reported earlier the McCain campaign had decided to give up on Colorado to focus on Pennsylvania and other big states.

Watching my 10pm local news, McCain is denying it. The regional spokesman for the campaign says McCain will continue to fight for our 9 electoral vote. The station has confirmed that McCain intends to be here Friday.

Checking McCain's campaign schedule at his website tonight, there are no events listed after Wednesday, when he'll be in Ohio with Sarah Palin. Palin will stay in Ohio on Thursday, but no details are given for McCain. [More...]

Obama, on the other hand, isn't letting up. Saturday, there will be 9 rallies in 7 Colorado cities to get out the Hispanic vote.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and California Democratic congressman Xavier Becerra will be among Obama surrogates at rallies Saturday in Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins and Pueblo. The effort is part of an initiative called "Viva el Voto!" Federico Pena, the Obama campaign's national co-chairman, says the Hispanic vote will lead Obama to victory. He cited a study by the Willie C. Velasquez Institute, a nonpartisan think tank, that shows Obama and McCain in a statistical tie in Colorado if Hispanic voters are factored out.

Early voting in Colorado began Monday.

Giving up on Colorado for McCain is very much like giving up on the general election.

He is going to make a last minute dash for PA, stupidly, but it won't work. His money is better spent in Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, and Missouri.

if McCain's "top people," as reported by King, have an agenda or are just shooting their mouths off. Either way, there's been more than a few times that his underlings have said inopportune things. McCain can't really be seen as controlling his campaign. Is there anything he's doing right? Cologne maybe?

that he can't afford to admit to pulling out of any other states, even if that is their clear intent.

The problem is that that they are having to defend FL, VA and OH, all of them are necessary in any McCain win scenario.

I had to laugh at Hewitt on CNN tonight talking about the possibility of McCain picking up NH as though that would make up for losing CO.

Truth is that McCain cannot afford to lose CO and that's why he and Palin spent a bunch of time there this week.

...in the number of McCain/"Puma's" posting over at ColoPols--one of the "liberal" websites specifically mentioned as a target for pro-McCain posters on his website.

Maybe they've earned enough points to get their fancy McCain windbreakers or golf tools--or perhaps their services have been re-focused elsewhere.

skiing. But Aspen is already in Obama's corner and it's one spot in the state McCain doesn't have a chance.

I'm kind of surprised Mitt Romney hasn't been campaigning here for McCain. Romney won the Republican caucuses here around 66% to McCain's 34%.

Watching Obama and Hillary tonight in Florida, I'm wondering why the other Republican candidates aren't doing the same for McCain. Huckabee's on Fox, Giuliani gives a few comments when he's speaking on other matters, but who's gone out on the road for him the way Hillary has for Obama?

Mormons in Colorado may not be all that happy that their guy was benched for know nothing.....They won't vote for Obama but maybe some of them won't vote at all; and the Mormon apparatus, which has been on the march here in California on the gay marriage initiative, is probably silent with respect to McCain--not only was Mitt snubbed, McCain's treatment of his first wife won't help....

even other defeated Dem. primary candidates who have campaigned in the past for the eventual Dem. nominee? Did Clark, Dean, Gebhart, et al. make this much effort on behalf of the person who defeated them?

P.S. My brother, who lives in CO, says Obama will take CO. All those newbies, like him!

does your brother live in? I loved living in the center of Denver. It gave me such a wonderfully, liberally skewed world view of my home state.

Which really is independent. A total toss up. If your brother is living in the more rural areas I find that VERY interesting. If he's living in the Denver/Boulder or Aspen areas then it's natural he would feel that way.
