UPDATE: Tebow misses Mon. practice, still not cleared to play. I guarantee you this is the biggest story in Florida this week.

Could Max Baucus look any more like a bumbling fool? Apparently, yes:

The Senate Finance Committee was supposed to convene for a vote on its controversial health care bill tomorrow. Now, that's looking doubtful.

A cynic might think Baucus' overlords, the insurance industry, do not like the way this is going. I am more a believer in the "Baucus is an idiot" theory. YMMV.

Must the SFC pass SOMETHING, even a blank piece of paper, just to proceed to the next step, the merging of a HELP and SFC bill?

Or, if the SFC fails to pass a bill, can they just use the HELP bill as the sole starting point of something the whole Senate can vote on?

On Morning Joe earlier today, Sen. Schumer indicated that the "compromise" public option he thinks will be included in the Senate bill will be an option initially funded by the federal government, but only for a period of time, and then the provider of public option insurance will have to compete.

Will this form of public option work to provide reasonably priced, effective health insurance over the long term?

Most insiders expect the bill to pass on a heavily partisan basis. Depending on how Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) chooses to vote, Finance chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) will be able to lose one or two Democrats, but no more. Several Democrats, but most notably Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Jay Rockefeller (D-WV)--frustrated by the right-leaning nature of the bill, and upset about being shut out of the months-long negotiations process--have suggested they may not be prepared to support the legislation as is.

Probably won't happen but it would be nice if it did.

it could be both: the industry might not like the way things are going AND Baucus is a bumbling fool.

I'm more inclined to think that the industry sees an opportunity to get more than they already have - Obama really, REALLY wants to pass something; an announcement of more (fake) industry concessions in exchange for what - less regulation? - is probably coming.

That Baucus is a fool is a given; since I have to believe Obama is backing him, well, you can connect those dots...

but they didn't kill the lights until "10th Ave...", I guess people were still piling in but it took away from the track a little.
I didn't notice lyrics at all on the screens on 10/2...but I tend to try not to look at the screens, too much like watching tv...coulda been there but I didn't even notice.

Trying to figure out what all this fuss is about regarding Wyden's amendment though:

Baucus did not allow Wyden to bring up his "free choice" amendment until 1:30 in the morning on the very last day of mark up. When Wyden did bring up his amendment, Kent Conrad was informed via text message that "somehow" the CBO did not fully score Wyden's amendment. Wyden had been told by the CBO that they did score his amendment. This is no small mistake. Wyden's free choice amendment could have brought in over $100 billion in new revenue (even more if the bill also contained a strong public option). Wyden had to withdraw his amendment. Since this "mistake" was not "discovered" until the very last day of mark up, Wyden did not have a chance to get his amendment properly scored.

So 1. how the hell did this happen? 2. Does this mean exchanges would work?

Aside from the ASU tilt being a classic trap game, there is value in it not being a blow-out. I'd rather have them knowing that they have to work on some things for the Michigan game than going into Saturday thinking they were all that.

Not to mention that ASU, unlike most of Iowa's opponents plays the spread--as does UM--so it was good practice against an offense they don't see that much. ASU schemes well, executes well and has a couple of very good athletes to boot.

Yes, Stanzi sat in the 4th quarter of the Iowa State game. Of course, he's not Gawd's own QB and has some work to do on his game.

And against any new taxes on what the man deems "unhealthy"...I knew this kinda crap was coming once healthcare reform took center stage. It will lose support for healthcare reform, imo, when people gotta wonder how the man is gonna soak 'em on the stuff we like that might not be the best thing for us. there isn't an overweight man in my family, all like rails and eat/drink whatever we want...thank you gene pool lottery!

There is no one size fits all here...some can't handle the high fructose and some can. Those who can shouldn't be punished...sh*t even those who can't shouldn't be punished anymore than they punish themselves.

If the feds need more money for something, and I'm not sold they do, but assume they do...raise the income tax across the board and spread the burden somewhat more evenly.

Or at least stop pickin' on my vices...it feels personal...feds hate dope, hate gambling, hate tobacco, now soda? Whats a degenerate to do in this country anymore?...:)

If it passes, I can only hope the native american tribes start selling it tax-free...or the Gambinos...somebody.

just don't buy land you don't plan on using, only flipping as an investment....unless you're willing to gamble you won't lose it to somebody who will use it.
Always had a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of land ownership myself...I see how the concept can reduce violence, but on the other hand it encourages it. I don't know.

gameshow host has them more unhinged than Clinton did. Though God only knows why. Must be the slippery slope idea: as in, if we let this one in, there's no telling what nasty secular-humanist, progressive direction the country might slowly start moving in. Nothing like that good ole fundamentalist-hysterical, "paranoid style" of the Right.
Listened to that racist pos Limbaugh for about ten minutes the other day with his -- reiterated every ten minutes -- "Barak Hussein Obama MMM-MMM-MMM" (think "yazza boss" and "sho' nuff"); I dont care how "conservative" you are, what kind of idiot in an idiocracy is comfortable having someone like that as the "voice" of your movement?
Keep it up Oxycotin Boy, so there's no mistake in anyone's mind what you and yours are about.
