President Barack Obama conceded Tuesday that the unemployment rate will keep growing for "several months" as he prepared to head to battered Michigan to unveil a plan to help train people for the next generation of jobs.

Obama is proposing a multibillion-dollar investment in the nation's community colleges, a $12 billion effort to help the two-year institutions reach, teach and train more people for "the jobs of the future." He was to outline his program in a speech Tuesday afternoon at Macomb Community College in Warren, Mich.

Before leaving town, Obama was pressed on how high the unemployment rate might climb. In Michigan, the jobless rate is 14.1 percent, worst in the nation.

"How employment numbers are going to respond is not yet clear," Obama said after a meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.

"My expectation is, is that we will probably continue to see unemployment tick up for several months," Obama said. "And the challenge for this administration is to make sure that even as we are stabilizing the financial system ... are people able to find good jobs that pay good wages?"

More than 2 million jobs have been lost since Congress passed Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus package. Without that government intervention, Obama said, states like Michigan would be in even worse shape because they would have had to lay off more teachers, firefighters and other workers.

If you haven't seen it, or heard about it, it's been out for a few years, and it's a documentary about The Brian Jonestown Massacre (and The Dandy Warhols to some degree), a band that is, essentially, it's frontman, Anton Newcombe, as twisted and tormented and phucked up a guy as you get.  Like watching a perversely beautiful trainwreck, but they have some damn good songs.

That will be hard to defend considering that he was quoted in the NYT that Fairey's poster was a transformation of the original and fair use. He even said that he liked the Fairey's transformation.

The AP lawsuit seems like a mean spirited way to waste money.

Garcia is now really fed up with the nonsense and wants AP to stop.

"The AP is aware -- and was aware at the time of filing its copyright application in the Garcia photo -- that it was not the true owner of the rights to that photo," the photographer's lawyer, George Carpinello, said in the filing.
Garcia is challenging both the AP and Fairey by trying to join the pending lawsuit between them.

I still remember when Foxnews dotcom ran a headline, "Recession, what recession?" last year.  

Basically the US Government is of the opinion that it owns and controls the thoughts of Abu Zubaida and, presumably, anyone else within its dominion and control. The government feels free to use Mr. Zubaida's own information against him, yet will not let him use it in his defense. These are interesting times we live in.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York Times Co said it will sell its New York City classical music radio station WQXR for $45 million, in a two-part sale that will help the struggling newspaper publisher pay off debt.

The station will continue to broadcast classical music, something it has done for 73 years, but at 105.9 on the FM radio dial instead of 96.3 FM, the Times said in a statement on Tuesday.
