The Donald comes to the rescue?

So much for dropping out -- Donald Trump tells TPM he believes he can win the White House as an independent candidate, keeping his name in the presidential game despite declaring last month he would not run for the GOP nomination. [. . .] As for whether he'll run, he said it depended on the GOP nominee. "Let's see what happens with the Republicans, who they put up," he said.

I still have the Short Fingered Vulgarian to kick around!! About two weeks ago, Trump said:

After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the presidency. Business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.

I guess the Reality TV and licensing business is not as exciting to Trump as he thought it would be. Of course this can not go on forever - the moment Trump has to reveal that he really is just another Kardashian is when the fun stops.

    like to see a poll on who he hurts the most Obama or the GOP if he runs as an independent.

    I wonder which Republican he is talking about? Surely he means that he probably won't run if it's Romney but sees room in the center against someone like Bachmann?

    Not my idea of the Independent candidate that could inspire Obama to do something meaningful championing the unwashed.  He's just going to create noise at a time when people are really hurting.  Disappointing to hear, I hope he knows where he can go and what he can do as far as I'm concerned.

    What a narcissistic vampire though.  We have real problems that must be addressed.  I know that the chances of that happening are slim.  It annoys the hell out of me though that the Trumps and the Palins and the media can't stop being so dysfunctional though.  I'm not fiddling while Rome burns, you aren't fiddling while Rome burns, but most everyone who is supposed to be reporting that Rome is burning is fiddling away for hours on end.

    he would split the GOP vote? I wouldn't bet on it. I heard that in '80 Anderson was supposed to do that but how did that work out?

    -- anti-Obama in almost a personal, birther, Tea Party way, along with the anti-choice and other GOP-friendly stances as well as the public perception that the Billionaire Bully favors Wall St over Main St -- as far more likely to dilute the GOP nominee's vote than Obama's.  

    So, as a life-long Dem, I'd welcome the Donald's presence in the race next year.

    And, yes, I think Obama is able enough to handle the inevitable 2-on-1 gang up debates, though putting the economy right with a strong jobs bill, and staying away from advocating for cuts in Medicare, would be strongly advised in the meantime.  

    This 3d party candidacy talk sounds like the Donald is trying to find a way to save some face, and get back at Obama for the WHCD fiasco.  I just think it'll end up helping O.

    Perot, for all his peculiar paranoia and quirkiness, did have some ability with the common touch in attracting disaffected moderate Rs and indies and working class Dems.  The unlikable Trump has no such ability.

    Do you really think that Obama will do anything about a "strong jobs bill"?  I don't.  And just "not advocating for cuts in Medicare," while working more-or-less behind the scenes toward what Obama considers a "bi-partisan solution" to Medicare (which will most likely involve some kind of cuts to Medicare) is also not going to "cut it" (pardon the pun).  I do agree that Obama will do well in a 2-on-1 debate, but I'm not sure how much that will persuade voters who are hurting because they are unemployed or under-employed, and seniors who are terrified of any talk of Medicare "fixes" (which they will interpret, not without some reason, as cuts).

    Like BTD, I enjoy the siphoning-away-attention-from-the-Repubs antics of Trump. In that regard, I'm struck by the palsy-walsy twosome of Trump & Palin. She has been saying flattering things specifically about hime for a few months, and now they are having lunch together. What a duad (or dud.) Questions: What does each gain from the other? Does the duad enhance each others' glitz? Are they planning a TV show together? Oh, the ways to make money, get another "15 minutes" & laugh at the same time!

    divorce or bankruptcy stuff back between spring '86 and june '89*.

    He was ordered by the court - or he requested ? - to drop his monthly spend from something like over 600k a month to around 500k a month.

    (*I remember the time because I remember reading the article / whatever in the Boston apartment I had during that time frame.)  

    As far what makes Trump tick - whew. If exposing his taxpayer welfare ponzi schemes keeps him out, oh well. ;)

    I'm so fed up with the cowed DC Dem crowd.

    I see a very warped advantage to a complete moron / nutjob getting elected in 2012. I'll be 52 in 2012, and I figure I'll be better able to cope with the pandemonium at age 52 than I'll be able to cope when I'm 72 or 82, when I'll be pretty screwed. Of course, that doesn't mean I HOPE a complete moron / nutjob is elected - and the "HOPE" thing as been a bust for a few decades...
