Stand Up To Cancer on All Major Networks

"Stand Up to Cancer" is airing on all major networks tonight. The cable networks began at 6pm MT, our local stations are airing it at 7 pm MT.

    I have read so much contradictory material on this matter.  If you want a conspiracy theory approach from an apparently reputable scientist, try "Whole" by T. Colin Campbell.  Has anybody here seriously looked into these issues?

    There is a very bad history in my family so I have tried to talk to as many different doctors as possible about the subject.  There are some things they all seem to agree on.  For one less red meat and more fruits and vegetables is sort of a no brainer.  But also there is growing evidence of the links between processed meats, lunch meats, hot dogs, (sadly) bacon.  Also salt cured or smoked meats.  There are certain foods I am lucky enough to love that everyone seems to think may be good.  Garlic and that family.  Nuts. Anti oxidants are good but much better gotten from food than supplements.  Supplements are not generally thought to help much but I take a multi anyway.  Vitamin D is thought to be helpful for preventing colorectal cancer (my family curse) so I have a prescription for that.
    Alcohol is bad. Exercise is good.  Fat is bad. Fish is generally good.  I also take fish oil.  Frying, broiling and grilling meat is not good (svcks I know).  Fiber and olive oil is good.  Obesity, salt and trans fat is bad.   Whole grains are good.

    Or so they tell me.

    I only recently learned.  Calcium is thought to be important in preventing some form of cancer.  Particularly colon cancer.  But the body can't absorb it without vitamin D.

    Why I take a prescription supplement.  However to much has been linked to prostate cancer so men should not over do it particularly with supplements.

    by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD says green tea which is rich in polyphenols and other strangely named ingredients can reduce the growth of blood vessels needed for tumor growth and metastases.  It is also a powerful antioxidant and detoxifier activating enzymes in the liver that eliminate toxins from the body) and it facilitates the death of cancer cells by apoptosis.  Green tea must be steeped for at least 8 to 10 minutes to release it's catechins.  You'll have to look that word up.  The green tea must be steeped and consumed within an hour.  Do not store green tea after steeping as it loses it's beneficial polyphenols after an hour or two.  So those jugs of green tea in the grocery store are not helpful in the retardation of blood capillaries that starve the cancer cells.  Only freshly brewed green tea creates that phenomena.  Whew... that was a tough one for me to write and understand but I now drink freshly brewed Japanese green tea every day.
