Happy Mother's Day to all TL moms -- and to our male readers, don't forget to call (or look up in the sky and say Hi.)

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

... who's certainly no slouch in the courtroom himself. And the best thing about him is that he stands his ground in the media. When Chin offered comments on NBC News a few weeks ago to the effect that the travel ban reflects the warped thinking of a relative handful of white Americans in Washington who've cast themselves as the superior race, conservatives jumped all over him. When subsequently asked by media if he would apologize for having misspoke, he said no, he wouldn't because he didn't and further, he meant every single word.

The guy you voted for lies in a daily basis, but even their denials aren't denying the WP report.  What McMaster said:

McMaster said, "The story that came out tonight as reported is false."

He said Trump and the Russian foreign minister went over a "range of common threats," but added, "At no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed. And the president did not disclose any military operations that were not already publicly known."

McMaster slammed the anonymous sourcing in the report and concluded, "I was in the room, it didn't happen."

He's right.  When he says that intelligence sources and methods and military operations weren't discussed, he's correct by all accounts.  No one said they were.  That wasn't what was reported, and he never denied that Trump revealed this highly classified information that could compromise or sources.  It's a denial of a strawman claim.

    But you already knew that.

And congratulations on your soon-to-be-realized status as grandmother. Grandparenthood is bliss. Trust me, you'll be amazed at how quickly and naturally you'll take to your new role and assert your matriarchal prerogative to do everything with your grandchild that you once swore you'd never do with your own child -- namely, spoil him or her rotten.

Elder Daughter, her husband and bambino all flew in from Honolulu yesterday morning. It's been a gray and wet weekend, so we've been mostly homebound. We'll be grilling dinner tonight on the hibachi because at 18 months, the grandson is generally too rambunctious and disruptive to inflict him on other patrons in a restaurant setting. They'll return to Honolulu early tomorrow morning.

is now officially the best thing on tv.   you should be watching.  performances, acting, characters, photogrphy (especially that), music....its amazing.   every week it gets better.

and its not just the rather shockingly full frontal h0moerotic elements.  but they dont hurt.

if you know me and my comment history even just here, you know i am borderline obssessed with religion.  not from the being religious point of view but what you might call comparative religion.  how it effects people and events of history.  how one branch effects another.  how religion sees its self.

if there had hot been a single stiffie or hot encounter (man oh man did they take hot s3x to a new level last night) i would still be obsessed.

i agree with a review i read recently that "someone" has been dethroned.

if you care about the history of tv entertainment you will watch eventually.  just give up and participate while its happening.

This last week, I've finally gotten rid of that walking boot I'd been wearing for six weeks after badly fracturing the three outer toes on my right foot. My foot still hurts a little but at least it's tolerable, and I can walk normally without looking like I'm channeling Marty Feldman in "Young Frankenstein." And better yet, I can now drive again! I couldn't do so while wearing that big heavy boot, and I had to mostly rely on my younger daughter for chauffeur service.

I did the same thing you did by walking accidentally into a piece of furniture at home. Only in my instance, I did so in the dark because I had foolishly turned off all the lights in the living room after watching the 10:00 p.m. news, sure that I could find my way to the bedroom. Wrong! My right foot found one of the legs to our mahogany coffee table instead, which like your ottoman also proved to be an immovable object upon contact.

30 minutes later, my entire foot was swelling fast and the pain was absolutely excruciating, so I knew my injury was likely serious because I otherwise have a very high pain threshold. My wife drove me to the emergency room at Hilo Medical Center, which fortunately is only five minutes from home. Even luckier for me, it was a very slow night in the ER, so they took me right in and promptly took care of me. We were in and out and back home in less than two hours.

Now both you and I can attest to the fact that indeed, the most common of personal injuries tend to occur at home and are often the result of our own carelessness. You don't realize how important your toes are to your maintenance of bipedal balance, until you first injure them and then compensate for it by changing your posture while trying to walk. Like you, I've had nagging back pain as well, which is only now subsiding.

Hope you feel better really soon. Aloha.

"The story that came out tonight as reported is false," McMaster said.

"At no time, at no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed and the president did not disclose any military operations that were not already publicly known."

Which, of course, is not what was reported. In fact, the report specifically states that specific sources and methods were not identified, but that the information Trump gave the Russians could help identify the sources (and possibly) methods.

Four statements from the WH using the same language, denying claims that was never made, and remaining silent on the claims made in the report.

    Strawman denials.

It wasn't one source ... it was sources (plural).

But say the part about "WH has flatly denied it" one more time.  Just give me a few minutes to stop laughing and catch my breath, then go ahead and do it.

    Heh, heh, heh ...

    Parent

jimakaPPJ: "The source is anonymous. Fancy that!!! (lol) And the WH has flatly denied it."

... something that was never alleged in the first place. The statement released by National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster this evening is a classic example of both a strawman argument and a non-denial denial:

"A brief statement for the record. There is nothing that the president takes more seriously than the security of the American people. The story that came out tonight as reported is false. The president of the foreign minister reviewed a range of common threats to our two countries, including threats to civil aviation. At no time, at no time, were intelligent sources or methods discussed. The president did not disclose any military operations that were not already publicly known. Two other senior officials who were present, including the secretary of the state, remember the meeting the same way and have said so. Going on the record should outweigh the anonymous sources. I was in the room. It didn't happen. Thanks, everybody." (Emphasis is mine.)

Now this is important, because the Washington Post never accused Trump of either divulging sources and uses directly to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergei Kislyak, or revealing to them the existence of a heretofore classified U.S. military operation in the Levant region.

Rather, the Post said that Trump had instead revealed highly classified information to the two men about the inner workings of Islamic State, from which information regarding the U.S. Intelligence Community's sources and methods can likely be inferred by their counterparts in Russian intelligence.

I'm happy to have cleared up that misunderstanding for you, before you further proceeded to dig yourself into a deeper rhetorical hole by once again doubling down on the Trump administration's incompetence and stupidity.

    Have a nice evening.

But I learned years ago that talking is better than shooting.

In fact,it was Obama who, during his campaign in '68, who agreed and said he would talk with anyone.

But I never did figure out what he meant when he said to the Russian Medvedev

"This is my last election ... After my election I have more flexibility," Obama said.....

And then we had Ted Kennedy wanting the Soviet's help in Reagan's election....

I think his words were very carefully parsed indicating names, and other specifics were not given.

I don't know if you follow Claude Taylor on twitter, but he's saying that more action is underway and EDVA is given priority to all things related to Trump/Russia.

Based on everything i've read on twitter and the upcoming all Senate meeting with Rosenstein & Boente, I think far more is going on. It is so hard to sit by and see the rule of law treated as a joke and all our institutions trashed.

Sorry, I'm trying to write a paper due tomorrow and I can't stay away from the news. I had the privilege of seeing "Hamilton" a few weeks ago, and found myself crying on and off throughout the entire performance over the loss of our country...

Just explained what he (McMaster) said was irrelevant.  He said Trump did not disclose "sources and methods"
The piece never said he did.  He disclosed information that would allow the Russians to easily figure out the sources and methods.

But the information disclosed is the problem.  So much for paragon of virtue and hope McMaster. IMO.

I don't believe he is capable of true thought out counterintel actions, not like Putin is capable of....HA! Hey, why am I laughing, that's truth and my nation is being deeply compromised. Sigh...Freaking Trump makes ME crazy now.

The person I know with what I believe is a striking similarity to Trump personality pathology does this though and it's instinctive to almost a staggering degree. They get truthful honest feedback from a friendly associate, feedback that they don't like, they begin to subtlely undermine that associate's confidence if they can, and they try to undermine support of that associate from anyone else.

When the Flynn thing went down my spouse was sort of thrown. His first MOS was the same as Chelsey Manning, and he worked in signal intelligence. As was also reported, someone with Flynn's career history knows that any conversation you have over a telephone with an embassy or an Ambassador is being monitored by at least five different nations but assume more, much more :) How did Flynn come to make the judgement calls that he did? I suppose the answer lies in the outrageous arrogance that can easily be found in Flynn's history and record of service, the things he was allowed to get away with while in service to our country. And the shared feeding of narcissism he had going on with Trump.

When word of Flynn's calls got out, nobody in intel could believe that someone who was promoted into the ranks Flynn was could forget he was being recorded by 10 nations and 10 organizations outside of who he served. It is still hard for most to even ponder. It is evidence of how vulnerable we can be and it's very hard for some people to fathom. And in order to undermine our democracy Russia is probably a player too in making certain that Flynn's conversations as well as everyone else Trump affiliated eventually gets out. Russia may have been the true leak. And if you want to undermine US democracy, well it's what they would have done right after a Presidential transition of power.

Obama ran a tight ship. I'm sure Putin had phuck-in had it!

But it is pretty safe to assume that Five Eyes nations have signal intelligence on Flynn, and the whole Trump organization for that matter. And rumors out there are that the chain of custody for all of this intelligence has been rigorous.

In true counterintel form though, Putin will only strategically expose Trump, for the purpose of maximum damage to the world's construct of democracy.

    Stunning though

Armando hopes Dems take the House in 2018 and then Trump decides to quit. The person I know who operates like Trump, when they finally got themselves into legal trouble, they still did not initially quit. They had a health crisis though, their heart could not handle what their personality was putting them through, and it went wild. Specialists could not find anything specifically wrong. They are not Trump's age though. But that's what did "stop" them, for now, but I'm betting it is only temporary. Hoping it isn't, but emotionally prepared if it is.

I think Trump will have a health crisis, a real health crisis, before he "quits"

Feeling very sorry right now for my nation, those standing on the front lines of this most of all. You are all under attack and it's going to get worse before it gets better. What am I supposed to say to them though while they are surrounded, the enemy has breached their lines? Oh yeah, something stupid like stay frosty. What A Mess!!!!!

after the election the intelligence community warning foreign agencies about Trump. Now instead of doing the right thing Trump will do the wrong thing and act like a third world dictator and start going after who he thinks might have leaked. Apparently the entire White House staff has locked themselves in their office and are in complete meltdown mode because this comes on the heels of Trump firing Comey.
