Russert Meets the Jury

Tim Russert, walking with a crutch under his arm, has arrived at the D.C. Courthouse to testify in the Scooter Libby trial. The judge took lunch late to finish the 40 minutes left of Mr. Libby's grand jury testimony. Then, the jury will hear from Mr. Russert who will deny discussing Joseph Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame Wilson, with Mr. Libby on July 10, 2003. (Background here.)

Swopa at Firedoglake and Media Bloggers will live blog the testimony.

Update: Fitz's direct examination took 11 minutes, Maine Web Report has the details.

Contrary to my earlier speculation, Wells, not Jeffress is conducting the cross-examination.

Update: From the Firedoglake and Maine Web Report live-blogging, it seems like Wells did a very good job of crossing Russert. I'm glad to hear that because I think he's an excellent lawyer but had the impression in the trial segments I watched that his crosses were too lumbering.

Now we'll see what the MSM and cable news has to say. I'm headed to the gym where I'll watch it on the treadmill. Russert will be back for more cross-examination and redirect by Fitz tomorrow.

I wonder if Russert will try to say anything about his feud with Chris Matthews or regarding the way his program is viewed as a mouthpiece for Cheney.  I have a feeling that he may try to say something about the latter if he gets an opening.

Russert has a law degree, right?

All seems pretty straightforward from reading the liveblogging at FDL.

Except for the bomb that Wolfie leaked the NIE to the WSJ before it was declassified. Must of had some of the Cheney insta dust on it from libby's July 8 meeting with Miller. Bet that is why it was OK to leak.

    "In an extraordinary internal challenge
to the unruly Office of the Vice President," the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) has formally petitioned the Attorney General to direct Cheney's office "to comply with a requirement that executive branch organizations disclose statistics on their classification and declassification activity to ISOO. For the last three years, Cheney's office has refused to divulge its classification statistics to ISOO, despite a seemingly explicit requirement that it do so."

The gym to use a treadmill??? (none / 0) (#8)

Don't do it, J.  Just walk the streets, walk up and down the capitol steps, any steps, there's zillions of them in DC.  Paying money and using electricity to walk???  You might as well pay to breathe.

Aside from that ribbing, great coverage.
