Legal Reaction to Scooter Libby Sentencing

Ok, we've linked to Firedoglake over and over today as they have the most thorough coverage of the Scooter Libby Sentencing (great job, Marcy, Jane and Christy.)

What are the law bloggers and commentators saying?

So let the word go forth: It does not pay to be a high-profile convict in just about any justice system in America. Judge Walton used Libby as a symbol to spread the gospel to the masses much in the same way that Paris Hilton's judge used her celebrity to make his point that you can't violate the terms of your probation and figure you are just going to get slapped on the wrist.

No, it's not a great stretch to compare the somber Libby with the flighty Hilton; they both got more prison time than they would have received from their respective judges had they been anonymous schleps.

On TV, I think CNN's Jeff Toobin has been very good.

    "final" includes a pardon. . .

    did anyone check cheney's

I bet Libby's criminal conviction was consistent with what Dick knows of the fine man. Maybe Dick thinks the sentence was too short?

and, off of 2005 census figures, that is out of about 110,000,000 million households.*

at 42 grand for 2.2 peoples, getting busted for these kinds of charges equals:

for paris' stuff - 5? 10? 15 grand? actually, with her lawyers, ha ha ha, forget it.

    for poor ol scooter's stuff - 150k? 350k

oh, but, wait, for most of those 55 million households, now you got ... the breadwinner ? ... either in the joint or unemployed and unemployable for scooter's stuff ...

for paris's stuff, what happens to working when, through your own stupidity, you can't drive? hope your not one of those zillions workign constantly changing shifts in an area with little or no public transit.

for scores of millions of us, these charges would be a lot more htan just the jail time.

relatively speaking, they got what they deserved.

    rmm.

*my figures are off - but, people who want to quibble a few thousand here or there, or a few million here or there, can go to the census website.  they are really really misssing my point

can i please see some RESPONSIBILITY? (none / 0) (#3)
